The word work has a very different meaning in Physics from the one we use in daily life. In daily life, work is equivalent to  "effort"; in Physics, for there to be work there must be a force acting on an object and displacement of the object. Calculate the work (in joules) carried out by different forces, when they move bodies over different distances.
